E206 EnerGuide Energy Advisor Exam Preparation

The federal government is seeking the training of up to 2,000 trained EnerGuide Energy Advisors to perform the mandatory home energy inspections required for the new Canada Greener Homes Grant program. This is the course to prepare aspiring Energy Advisors to prepare them for the second rigorous Natural Resources Canada test, the Energy Advisor Exam. This is a huge career opportunity for future EnerGuide Energy Advisors.

The Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) Energy Advisor Exam (House) assesses candidates in the following areas.

  • Knowledge of EnerGuide Rating System
  • Knowledge of the HOT2000 Modelling
  • Ability to administer and deliver the EnerGuide Rating System
  • Ability to perform general quality assurance on house files under the EnerGuide rating System Version 15

The main objective of this course is to increase the chance of the participants passing the Energy Advisor Exam (House) V15.10. With over 220 learning objectives in this course provides solid program knowledge and effective study notes for participants to challenge the Energy Advisor Exam. At the end of this training, students will be given a mock-up version of the NRCan energy advisor exam to test their knowledge and identify their weaknesses. This exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions with a passing mark of 75% or higher. Participants have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the exam.

Trainer: Jack Zhou

Mr. Zhou was the recipient of the Evaluator of the Year 2016 Award presented by EnerQuality Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Architectural Science degree from Ryerson University.

Mr. Zhou holds several professional designations including Certified Radon Test and Mitigation specialist, Certified Infrared Thermographer – Level 1, Residential Air System Design Technician, Residential Hydronics Design Technician and HVAC commissioning professional. His areas of expertise are airtight building envelope design, construction and onsite verification, energy efficient and sustainable buildings design, HVAC design (high & low velocity and hydronic systems) and commissioning, optimal indoor thermal comfort design, energy modelling and Net Zero Homes consulting.

Over the past 7 years, Mr. Zhou has been giving guest lectures at Ryerson University on energy modeling using HOT2000 and energy audits on low-rise residential homes in Ontario. He has been traveling to different municipalities in Ontario, giving lectures to city staff on how to verify and determine building code performance compliance using HOT2000. He and his companies have inspected and certified over 4500 ENERGY STAR® for New Homes Standard and over 6000 existing homes in Ontario.

Mr. Zhou provides energy modelling and consulting services through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to other countries like People’s Republic of China and South Korea. Mr. Zhou is currently a technical member of the evaluator council at EnerQuality, Ontario Home Builders’ Association and a member of the building code technical advisory committee. He is very passionate about making homes more comfortable, energy-efficient, durable, healthy, environmentally friendly and sustainable.
